Wrestler Murder: Sushil’s wife became the only witness, Kala Jathedi also revealed the secret

New Delhi: Notorious gangster Sandeep alias Kala Jathedi has confessed to being identified with double Olympic medalist wrestler Sushil Kumar, lodged in Tihar Jail on charges of murder. In the initial interrogation of the Crime Branch, he admitted that Greco-Roman wrestlers Sagar Dhankar and Jai Bhagwan alias Sonu Mahal had refused to vacate the flat. Sushil took it on his ego. Considering this as his insult, he carried out the murder.

The Special Cell had arrested Kala Jathedi, absconding from the custody of Haryana Police in February 2020, from Saharanpur on 30 July. He is currently on the remand of Special Cell under MCOCA (Maharashtra Control of Organized Crime Act). Four people, including Sonu Mahal, son of Jathedi’s maternal uncle, were injured and Sagar died in a fight at Chhatrasal Stadium on the intervening night of May 4-5. Police sources said that Kala Jathedi has also confessed that he was called by Sushil Pehalwan during the absconding.

The Crime Branch has claimed in the chargesheet filed in the Rohini court on Monday that Jathedi was initially interrogated in connection with the Sagar murder case. He told that apart from Sagar and Sonu, he also knows Sushil. It is known that the flat in which Sagar and Sonu lived is in the name of Sushil’s wife Savi Sehrawat. Jathedi told that Sushil asked both of them to vacate the flat after a few months, but both of them refused. Being a well-known wrestler and Olympian of the country, Sushil was feeling humiliated by this act of both.

The Special Cell will try its best to find out the nexus between Kala Jathedi and Sushil Pehalwan, as there have been talks of nexus between the two over extortion, forced land grabbing and toll plazas in outer Delhi. But in the case of Sagar murder case, the crime branch can interrogate Kala Jathedi again by taking him on production remand.

Sonu Mahal, who was badly injured in the fight at Chhatrasal Stadium, is actually the son of Kala Jathedi’s maternal uncle. He has been a litigant in many crimes of Jathedi from Delhi to Haryana. Apart from several robberies in Delhi, both have been partners in the sensational murder of three prisoners by attacking a police van in Jhajjar in March 2012.

The crime branch has produced 155 witnesses, including Sushil’s wife Savi Sehrawat alias Savi Solanki and famous marathon runner Asha Agarwal. Savi is the owner of the flat in Model Town from which Sagar-Sonu’s dispute with Sushil started. Asha Agarwal is the Deputy Director Education (Sports) at Chhatrasal Stadium, where Sushil was posted as OSD.
